Learn how to optimize steam injection in methanol production and more.
Methanol production takes place in a system consisting of tanks and complex steam pipies with control valves. By manipulating these valves, the required steam condensate ratio can be controlled. However, the effects of the adjustments only become visible after 3 – 10 hours. The goal was to determine a system model that can be incorporated into the predictive control loop to optimize the steam condensate ratio to 1. The increase in steam volume (to compensate) also required the modification of some valves.
A coefficient of determination of 94.9% in our model made it possible to maximize steam consumption and save 100.000 euros per year.
